School District of Philadelphia superintendent Dr. William Hite made a pledge of a full time nurse and counselor in every Philadelphia public school.

We are pleased that Dr. Hite has promised that the School District of Philadelphia will soon provide what every parent wants and what every child deserves: a full time nurse and counselor in every school. We have spent months hearing from parents across the city about what the lack of nurses has meant to their families, including increased absences, unmet medical needs, trips to the emergency room, and above all else, the fear of sending vulnerable children to a school that is unequipped to keep them safe. To the extent Dr. Hite’s announcement becomes reality, the School District will save itself from costly, protracted litigation, and instead expend its scarce resources where they belong: on our children.
