Pennsylvania’s rate of uninsured children remains better than the national average, but the number of children without coverage has worsened, according to “Uninsured Children 2009-2011: Charting the Nation’s Progress,” a report from Georgetown University’s Center for Children and Families. In 2011, 5.4 percent of Pennsylvania children lacked health insurance, compared to 5.3 percent in 2009. In that same period, the number of uninsured children rose to 149,227, up from 147,428. Pennsylvania ranks 19th among states in its rate of uninsured children, down from 13th in 2009, according to the report.
