Education Groups Urge City Council to Support Sales Tax Extension for Schools

In partnership with leading education groups, the Law Center is urging City Council to allocate $50 million in additional revenue to the schools.

In a letter submitted Tuesday, August 13, the Education Law Center, Education Voters of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Budget and Policy Center, Philadelphia Education Fund, Public Citizens for Children and Youth, the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey and the Public Interest Law Center of Philadelphia requested that City Council move forward on passing the ordinances necessary to release $50 million to the Philadelphia School District by the end of the week. The letter also urges City Council to enable the one percent sales tax extension that will provide recurring revenue to the School District in future years.

Just four days remain until the deadline for the City of Philadelphia to provide funding to ensure public schools open on-time.
